Loose chippigs, potholes, subsidence

Reported in the Loose chippings category by Eric Bucley at 16:34, Saturday 26 January 2019

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 345810.

I refer to the stretch of road that passes through the village of Edlington near Horncastle. This road has been the subject of a request for resurfacing due to its very poor condition. Several months ago the road was subjected to a dressing of chippings, but it appears there was no attempt to rectify the potholes first and in particular the road surface adjacent to Woodbeck Farm which was in a particular poor state of repair due to the frequent comings and goings of HGVs and farm machinery. Several weeks after the chippings were laid I requested that the road be swept due to the piles of loose chippings especially at either side of the road and down the center. I was informed that this would be done 13 weeks after the initial laying of the chippings in accordance with Lincolnshire Highways policy. On Friday 18th January I witnessed a road sweeper make one pass along the road in each direction. This has done nothing to remove the loose chipping which still pepper the underside of my car whenever I venture out. HGVs and farm vehicles have removed area of chippings from the road especially on bends and in front of Woodbeck Farm. The recent snow and ice have not done the road any favours either. Basically the laying of a dressing of chippings has bee both a waste of time and a waste of tax payers money. The road needs to be resurfaced properly. I would suggest that the bill for repairs adjacent to the entrance to Woodbeck Farm be sent to the farm’s owner, Beeswax. At the very least they should make a contribution as it is they who have caused the damage. Regards Eric Buckley Chairman Edlington with Wispington Parish Meeting
