The speed limit on the road between Martin village and the approach to Kirkstead Bridge

Reported in the Sign (unlit) category anonymously at 18:46, Wed 6 February 2019

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 4 minutes later. Council ref: 346476.

B1191: Leaving Martin village there is a sign indicating a speed limit of 40 mph. Leaving Kirkstead the speed limit is again indicated as 40mph (after to 50 limit). There is only one repeater sign (temporary), about half way down the road between these limit signs, on each side of the road. These clearly do not comply with the legal requirements. Therefore drivers are happy to ignore the signage and go as fast as they feel like doing. I presume the limit has been introduced in good faith because the road is deeply potholed, patched and Extremely in level. But what is the point of doing so when signage is incorrect and the limit unenforceable?

  • Almost 2 months have passed since I reported it and the speed limit has not yet been legalised. If the limit was imposed for safety reasons (the road is subsiding) then the highways authority do not consider it a priority. So why impose an unenforceable speed limit?
