Traffic lights don't allow for cyclists
Reported in the Timing issue category anonymously at 08:14, Thu 28 February 2019
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 347851.
Since December 2018 I have encountered problems with lights at this junction if you are looking to turn south bound down Newark Road. If you are a lone cyclist and no cars are with you then these lights will frequently remain red to any one on a cycle travelling from Rookery Lane to Newark road whilst continuing to perform light changes on the other lights. In particular I have noticed this at night and in colder weather. Additionally when the lights do change the timing for the next lights is very short meaning you are stopped before you can pass the turning for Hykeham road or they change just your cycle pulls out in front of the Hykeham road traffic. There also seems to be no delay between lights from that direction going red and the lights at the same junction but on the Hykeham road turning going green because on two occasion the light has changed just as I went through it and drivers have tried to exit the Hykeham Road turning immediately. On both occasions I nearly lost my life. When cars are taking the same turning as me travel from Rookery lane to Hykeham road more time is allowed for vehicles to pass. So clearly it is something impact cyclists more than car users.
