The above problem still hasn’t been resolved. Silver Birch tree is fouling my telephone line and with the recent stormy weather there is a real possibility of pulling the line down. As previously stated this is not the responsibility of BT as the line was there before the trees which have grown to entangle the line. The Silver Birch has a large broken branch that could fall at any time. Trees need removing or pollarding.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because it is the responsibility of the relevant utility company to ensure that trees and branches are free of their overhead lines irrespective of the ownership of the tree. Thank you for reporting this matter.

Your reply to this issue is totally unsatisfactory. Apart from taking 11 months to reply, yes 11 months, you have not addressed the problem of the tree roots coming up in my garden or damage they are causing in the footpath. With regard to the fouling of the telephone line, the line was there before the trees, therefore it is the Councils responsibility to maintain their trees. If damage is caused by the line ripping the facia off my bungalow, guess who I’ll be claiming from, yep LCC.

This tree was inspected by our Tree Officer on 17 December 2019 who reported that there were no major issues of concern and identified that the phone lines through the crown of the tree are the responsibility of Openreach (BT). As previously advised, you will need to report any concerns with the BT lines overhead directly to the utility company, particularly if you are experiencing faults with the line however, generally these lines are robust. Openreach (BT) can be contacted at https://www.openreach.com/ help-and-support/ damage-health-and-safety. Our Highways Officer has recently attended the site and assessed the footpath regarding potential issues from the roots, although some minor cracking was found, there were no defects which require urgent action at this time. Thank you for reporting this matter.
