Drain running through AVOCET Lincoln Road
Reported in the Blocked drain category anonymously at 20:37, Tue 29 October 2019
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 2 minutes later. Council ref: 357925.
5 times in the last 8 months I have experienced flooding to the rear garden and out houses at 43 Lincoln Road, Horncastle, LN95AW. I have an open drain which is connected to the drain in the photos, I have checked my drains by rod and about 15 feet of the drain mine connects to from the inspection pit in my neighbours rear garden (AVOCET). I have had Anglian water out and they have informed me that it is a council problem to resolve. The photo was taken tonight over 3 days since the rain stopped on Saturday and the water has fallen from about 6” from the top in that time. by 10:00 on Saturday the flooding had started I had to go out but had a pump on for 2 hours Saturday and then 7 hours Sunday to get the water low enough to drain my workshop. This is purely surface water and in the 5 years previous we have not had any issues with drainage. I appreciate 2 out of the 5 times was exceptionally heavy rain but the other 3 were not. I have narrowed it down to the specific drain but do not know where the other inspection pits are so cannot say anything more than it is downhill from me and drains very slowly. I cannot do anything more, please come and clear the drain blockage before I flood again.
Kind regards,
D. Smyth

Dear Sir, Madam, Our drive and workshop flooded again on Saturday due to the drain being blocked. Even though it does slowly drain off it was still over the pipe in the inspection pit by about 8 inches before the rain started so didn’t take long to fill. This fault is not on the highway but is in the surface water drain that runs at the back of the houses down Lincoln Road. I am unsure if or where it joins the highway surface water drains.
Kind regards,
D. Smyth

Hi, flooded again due to the drain not being cleared. The second photo shows the drain entry to the main pipe, I have checked this and the blockage isn’t on my property. As I said previously I have checked the main pipeline as far as I can through the inspection pit in my neighbours garden (AVOCET, Lincoln Road)and it is clear as far as I could check.

Hi, flooded workshop again today due to the drain not being unblocked and the ground being saturated even though I had a pump running for six hours on Saturday to reduce the water level in the drain.

Hi, Unfortunately the work carried out on Langton hill has not helped the drainage issue. As the image shows we will have flooding again today if the rain doesn’t stop.
Regards,
Dave

Dear Sir, Madam,
Because this issue still hasn’t been resolved and I have been unable to dry my workshop out due to the weather and constant flooding, I am now facing a rotting roof and workbenches. A white mould is growing over all the woodwork and everything metal is starting to corrode. My electrical equipment is failing and my motorbike which is stored in the workshop is having electrical issues as well. It will be appreciated if you can escalate this issue before it costs thousands of pounds to rectify. As I have said earlier it has already cost me hundreds of pounds due to missed work, purchasing a pump and spoiled plaster, cement and lime. I have attached a couple of photos to show the rot and mould.
Regards,
Dave

Dear Sir, Madam,
Because of the rain last night we the drain is about 3 inches from the top. If it rains much more over the next couple of days we will flood again.

Dear Sir, Madam,
I have been running a pump that moves 17,000 litres of water per hour for about 9.5 hours now. It has just about managed to hold the water coming from the drain at bay, the water level increased by about 5 inches at about 14:00.

Dave Smyth

Dear Sir, Madam,
Please find 2 photos taken today at 06:50 and 17:20. As you can see my property is still flooded even though the rain stopped falling over 26 hours ago. I have stopped pumping now as all I am doing is paying to reduce the water table level, as soon as I turn the pump off the water level rises as it comes up through the drain cover. This shows that there is a restriction to the drain close to where I live as, if it was much further down the hill the water would be coming up through a drain at a lower level or the pressure would cause a pipe failure.
Regards,
Dave Smyth

We are aware of this issue however Anglian Water will not meet us on site to go through this together due to COVID so we are waiting for them to get back in touch with us regarding it. Thank you for reporting this matter.
