Blocked gullies on West Street causing extensive flooding

Reported in the Blocked drain category anonymously at 22:24, Thu 14 November 2019

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 359116.

Gullies on the Middle Street end of West Street are all blocked, causing the road to flood for the full width and for 30 metres to a depth of 10cm, extremely hazardous and makes the road impassible for pedestrians.

  • Still blocked and the recent rain caused flooding across the full width of the road, these repairs need to be completed before the Autumn as the road will be impassible again for pedestrians when it rains.

  • On the 19th August you sent to me a "fixmystreet" email notification that this job's status (reference number: 359116) was changed to "In Progress". The attached photos, taken at the junction of Chapel Street and West Street in North Kelsey. LN7 6EL, on Sunday 4th October 2020 clearly showing nothing has been done to resolve the issue. It has now been 11 months since this was first reported and given a high priority. WHAT DOES IN PROGRESS MEAN? WHEN IS SOMETHING GOING TO BE DONE?

  • This fault will be fixed as part of our next cycle of works. We cut the grass three times a year and treat weeds twice a year between April and October. We clean highway drains once a year.

  • Why has this been closed, the LCC surveyor come out in January and determined that this issue is caused by collapsed pipes and just cleaning the gullies will not help. If you look above, a job was raised for this repair but it has not been completed:-

  • Thank you for your reply and update. I can assure you that this problem will not be resolved by cleaning out the highway drain as the whole pipe from the gulley across the road is also blocked, as confirmed by your own contractor who was here in West Street clearing other blocked drainage early this year or late last year. It will only be resolved by cleaning out the blocked pipe under the road as well as the gulley. I would welcome meeting with your engineer to discuss the problem.

  • About three weeks ago you came and cleaned out the gulley that causes this flood. As you can see following rain today, the cleaning of the gulley has failed to stop the road flooding. This is because, as mentioned previously, the take away pipe running across the road is blocked. The gulley cleaning has not made any difference.
