Poor quality resurfacing
Reported in the Road surface issue category anonymously at 17:28, Tue 3 December 2019
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 2 minutes later. Council ref: 360545.
The unclassified road between the A631 Gainsborogh Road at West Rasen and Corner Farm at Toft next Newton (possibly named either Toft Lane or East Lane) was recently resurfaced. The 300m or so section towards the A631 is smooth and satisfactory but the rest of the lane to Corner Farm is ridged and uneven with one section producing a loud rumbling sound as car tyres roll over it. The new road surface is also some 80mm above the original verges and, although some infill of the verge level has been attempted, vehicles have run onto the verge in many places, resulting in a disparity of levels; at the corner adjacent to Corner Farm, this is causing the verge to be displaced into the drainage ditch. The quality of the new road surface is, to my mind, unsatisfactory and does not represent value for money from scarce road maintenance funds. The disparity in levels between the new road surface and the verge also presents a danger to vehicles that may inadvertently leave the paved surface especially at the corner previously described where the ditch side is in danger of collapse.

I see that the stretch of road previously reported on 3 December 2019 (Council Ref:360545) has now been prepared for imminent surface dressing. I fail to understand how this can be necessary on a road which was completely, if unsatisfactorily, resurfaced only a few month ago and I would be grateful if you could explain to me the reasoning behind the decision and how this work represents good use of a very finite highways budget when potholes are still a major issue within the area covered by this Highways Authority. I would also like to ask if this surface dressing work is at all related to my original report on the poor quality of the full resurfacing which took place last year. If it is, I would suggest that it will address neither the issues of ridging and unevenness nor the inherent danger of the disparity between the road surface and adjacent verges. Thank you for your kind attention to this update and I look forward to hearing from you again on the matter.
