Manhole Sunk in Carriageway
Reported in the Pothole on road/cycleway category anonymously at 13:15, Sat 11 April 2020
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 5 minutes later. Council ref: 370489.
There is a massive bang as lorries heading south pass over this sinking manhole cover. Montrose, Field View and The Coach House in particular, are all badly affected by the resultant noise. The whole house shakes every time a vehicle passes directly over this sunken manhole, first reported in January and discussed with the repair team attending a nearby repair on 6th Feb. Lorries in particular are causing a massive bang and the nearby houses all ‘shake’ as a result. The area should be properly levelled to avoid causing structural damage to nearby properties. Additionally a 30mph limit is long overdue on this section of road, due to multiple fatalities at the junction with Blackjack. Moderate traffic speeds would not only save lives but also save costs, by decreasing the amount of repeated damage to this section of road, which is being caused by 40 tonne trucks travelling at 60mph!

Being patient but this is really getting worse, I am sure some of the lorries must be getting damaged as well by the massive bang as they pass over this. Structural damage to houses close by is becoming almost inevitble.

Still sunken and the massive banging continues. This is really start to have an impact on mental health and wellbeing for people living in surrounding properties not the mention the structural damage which is being caused by the massive bang and ground bouncing as heavy vehicles pass over.

The banging is so extensive now and the road damage (cracking) has actually extended accross the entire Southbound carriageway towards the verge from the corner of the manhole area. If you look carefully you can see it leading from bottom right in 1st photo, although much easier to see in reality.

We have carried out an initial assessment, but a more detailed investigation is required. We will provide a further update when this has been completed.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because this manhole would appear to belong to Anglian Water and it is not at an intervention level where we can serve notice on them to repair. You may wish to contact Anglian Water direct. You can report this to them at https://www.anglianwater.co.uk/ contact-us/ Thank you for reporting this matter.

This is utterly RIDICULOUS The problem was reported in JANUARY 2020 and it has taken you this long to decide that it is Anglian water's problem and not yours... really? UNBELIEVABLE!
