Shoddy and inappropriate work
Reported in the Problem at LCC roadworks category anonymously at 17:28, Wed 10 June 2020
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 372264.
Today at 9.30 a.m. (10 June 2020) we drove and negotiated our way down Gorse Hill towards Stragglethorpe, trying to avoid the numerous sharp potholes everywhere and the razor sharp edges which line the verges so that we did not cut our tyres to pieces. This has been an on-going problem for as long as we have lived in Caythorpe (11 years) It is absolutely no use having a depth of hole policy when it is the razor sharp edges of pot holes and verges that are the problem. ALL are dangerous and can cause blow outs, as we have noticed when monitoring our Caythorpe Village Facebook page where we get frequent warnings from drivers with cut tyres. When we came toward the bottom of Gorse Hill we noticed two large Lincolnshire Highways Department vehicles with workers filling one or two tiny holes. We came back that way after shopping to see what had been achieved. Two and a half hours, reaching the same stretch of road, we noticed that although the vehicles were a little higher up the road, only a few potholes had been addressed, and in a very shoddy uneven way...... all handily ready to be ripped up again by farm vehicles and plant vehicles which regularly use that run. Adopting what seems to be a 'sticking plaster' solution to the problem is not a solution at all. We were appalled at the standard of repair to say the least. When we got as far as Caythorpe cemetery we noticed another two Lincolnshire Highways vehicles. In order to achieve a shoddy very impermanent job you had employed the use of four vehicles. Questionably an unsustainable policy. In Central France where temperatures are much more severe, ubiquitous potholes do not seem to exist. We wonder why? Perhaps they just build roads to last. We would enjoy hearing what Lincolnshire plan to do to make their road repair scheme more sustainable and effective. Yours sincerely Caythorpe residents Gordon and Margaret Grant
