Email - A bench was fixed to a small area of pavement at the junction of Park Lane, Park Road and Daniels Gate Long Sutton last Tuesday 28th of June. As a resident of Park Lane I would be most grateful if you could clarify whether the positioning of the bench has had approval from your dept, and also whether the bench/project is adequately insured.
I would like this information as I fear the bench should not have been approved for this position for several reasons, not least on the grounds of public safety.
Since I became resident in Park Lane there have been at least 5 minor accidents at this junction and two more serious incidents where cars running in from Park Road have misjudged the corner and crashed through my hedge into my front garden. While happily no one has to date been injured in these incidents, the bench is square onto where both vehicles mounted the pavement on the way into my garden. While the bench, had it been present on these occasions, would have arrested the impact into my property, anyone seated there at that time would without doubt been seriously injured or worse.
There is a much better place for the bench at the junction of Daniels Gate and Delamore Way, which is approx 30yds from its present location. Here, there is a wide sweep of walkway which backs onto an enclosed grassy area and is a good distance, in every direction, from any residents and free from speeding motorists negotiating a corner with limited visibility.
Any information you can forward to me on this issue would be very much appreciated.
