Drain under the road appears to be sinking causing the road to subside. Got worst over last few months with heavy wagons.

The problem is the road is collapsing due to heavy traffic,The area of concern is in front of my property,There is a considerable concern what this is doing to our buildings foundations. We can feel the house shake when traffic passes at speed,We believe the drain that runs under the road is collapsing, causing a large dip in the road.

The crack underground appears to be getting worse and the shaking of properties and noise certainly is. The noise and shaking can be felt 50yds up the road in a modern house, lord knows how bad it must be for 'The Bungalow' and 'Silt Pit Farm'. Speedy heavy wagons are the problem and this road has many of them, even on a Sunday morning! There must be damage being caused by this.

We acknowledge your concerns and accept that the highway has deteriorated in condition. We have assessed the fault in accordance with our Highways Infrastructure Asset Management Plan and it does not require urgent action There are many factors affecting the transmission of noise and vibration in properties which are adjacent to carriageways, including noise nuisance through HGV tyres, transmissions through utility or private apparatus, for example underground sewer pipes. Other factors include soil types, moisture content of the soils, distance from the source and also the depth and condition of the foundation and the condition of the structure of the property. If you believe you have suffered any loss, either by noise and/or vibration, you should contact your insurance provider who may investigate the matter via an independent Engineer and may ultimately pursue a claim. Alternatively, you may wish to commission your own engineering investigation which would include a survey on your building. Thank you for reporting this matter.
State changed to: No further action
