Sudden sound of a shot

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 380904.
A friend and I were walking alongside the wood when we heard a shot that sounded really nearby, we couldn't see anyone but then spotted a minor cloud of smoke in the hedge alongside the wood - it was coming from a rope hanging in the hedge. The rope had shotgun cartridges tied at intervals and we realised the rope was burning from the bottom, acting as a slow burning fuse which then ignited the cartridges as it reached them. We couldn't see any reason to scare birds off - no crops adjacent. We were very glad we were only approaching it and not next to it when it fired as it was fairly alarming! I consulted representatives of the Ramblers Association and was advised that I should report the incident to the police (TAA-70548-20-3232-00). I emphasise that we were not hurt in any way but glad we were not nearer when it fired. We were nervous of approaching too close but took a photograph and it looks as if the cartridges could have been empty of missiles. PS I tried very hard - but the choice of category was not applicable in any way! You'll have to change it!
