Poor road markings
Reported via mobile in the Road markings faded/missing category anonymously at 22:56, Thu 21 January 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 385264.
The road markings outside Haven High Academy and Robin Hood Walk are causing bottlenecks in traffic and I fear it will soon cause an accident. The first problem is that whoever put the yellow zig zag lines on the road failed to make them continuous which means parents still park outside the gates which makes it hard for cars to see to get past during drop off and pick up times. The junction gets extremely busy at these times and it will end up with a child getting knocked over if the lines aren't made continuous.
The other issue is that after the yellow zig zag lines parents are free to park further down the road. This again causes a bottleneck - this is even more dangerous due to the town fire station adjacent to the school field. Residents of Friar Way have commented that due to people parking right up to the corner of the junction makes it impossible for them to see if the road is clear to exit safely. Again at drop off and pick up times this makes the road extremely dangerous - not to mention if the fire station has a call out at the same period of time. Solutions: Make the zig zag line continuous with no gap outside the school gates. Put double yellow lines after the zig zag lines up to Friar Way and on the opposite side of the road to the school so that the road is clear for children to cross the road, people can see to join the road safely and that the fire station can make a speedy safe exit to an emergency.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because there is a legal maximum length for school zig zag markings and the site appears to meet those limits. If the school, Parish and local County Councillor feel there is a problem they can request us to look at the possibility of a school safety zone and or traffic regulation orders. Consideration also has to be given that whilst the parking may not be ideal it does act as natural traffic calming. Thank you for reporting this matter.
