Destruction of ornamental grass verge due to parking

Reported via desktop in the Wheel tracks or ruts category anonymously at 12:56, Tue 26 January 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 385748.

The grass verge on the corner of Ruckland Avenue and Wickenby Cresent (LN13TG) is becoming completely destroyed by a person parking their vehicle on there. There are deep tire tracks left by the vehicle and it has become extremely muddy. There is a tree planted in the centre of the verge which has been knocked over and is hanging at an angle causing a hazard for children playing. There is also a BT green box (that houses communications) at the side of the verge which has also been hit by the vehicle leaving the box leaning and cracked open. Which I guess could also be an electrocution hazard.

  • Open Reach (BT) are responsible for the utility box. We have reported this to them on your behalf and asked them to investigate. Please contact them directly athttps://www.openreach.com/ help-and-support/ damage-health-and-safety if you require any further information. We have contacted City of Lincoln Council to replant the tree. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • If this is not the council's responsibility, whose is it? The owner needs to be told to stop parking on the grass verge or the destruction will continue.

  • Hi, Is it possible for a letter to be sent to the tenant at the property please? It can be a polite request to refrain from parking on the grass verge, or just to inform them that it has been noticed. One was sent to the previous tenants and parking and destruction stopped. Thanks.

  • Sure, if you would like to read the history of this report then the problem is very clear. I'll repeat the initial report again:

    > The grass verge on the corner of Ruckland Avenue and Wickenby Cresent (LN13TG) is becoming completely destroyed by a person parking their vehicle on there. There are deep tire tracks left by the vehicle and it has become extremely muddy. There is a tree planted in the centre of the verge which has been knocked over and is hanging at an angle causing a hazard for children playing. There is also a BT green box (that houses communications) at the side of the verge which has also been hit by the vehicle leaving the box leaning and cracked open. Which I guess could also be an electrocution hazard.

Since the initial report the destroyed communication box has been covered in polythene and the leaning tree has been removed but this is not dealing with the problem. Also, I hope that tree will be replaced.

Is it possible for a letter to be sent to the tenant at the property please? It can be a polite request to refrain from parking on the grass verge to avoid more destruction. One was sent to the previous tenants and parking and destruction stopped. Thanks.

  • After a recent visit to site we acknowledge your concerns and accept that the verge has deteriorated in condition however, the recent weather will have also had an impact and this means that any repairs to the verge at this moment in time would not last and be a potential misspend of public funds. It is not obvious as to who owns the vehicle and as no specific address has been given no correspondence can be sent out. We will continue to monitor the site as part of our routine inspection schedule and we will review the situation with the view to carry out repairs if considered necessary. Thank you for reporting this matter.

    The address is as follows:

    22 Ruckland Avenue Lincoln LN13TG

Can you send correspondence there please? Otherwise the deterioration is going to worsen over time.

    Thank you.

  • Grass belongs to City Council so needs reporting to Cllr Tweddle or their ASB team

Posted anonymously at 17:02, Wed 24 March 2021

  • Can you do that please. Also, I'm asking you to resolve this by sending a letter to the person responsible (mentioned at the address above), asking them not to continue worsening the destruction of the grass verge and to park their car on the road where there is plenty of room. Thank you.
