Appalling Road Condition - Church Street, Halfleet.

Reported via desktop in the Pothole on road/cycleway category by James Walker at 08:57, Thursday 28 January 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 385980.

When you resurfaced small sections of Church Street about two years ago your contractor damaged the wearing surface on the south bound side outside 31-33 and Holland House. Despite having reported this twice nothing gets done - Why? and I want an answer. More recently deep pot holes are appearing along the centre line of Church and Halfleet (outside Coronation Hall area) and with the weather as it is they are getting deeper. In the last week or so footpath holes have been patched - not repaired just patched. A marked hole close to the crossing was ignored and an adjacent patch had about a third of the damaged area patched. Yet, recently, a very minor road in DSJ gets major repairs, almost re-laid, cul-de-sacs and side roads in Bourne get surface dressed but Church Street and Halfleet, the primary traffic and bus route through Market Deeping are just ignored. Where is all the money that has been allocated to the Council for highway repairs gone? The job needs doing properly not your usual bodge and run patching. You take our Council Tax and do little to maintain the infrastructure - it will cost more the longer you neglect it. Again I want answers to these issues (no political type side stepping) and some action. Regards James Walker

  • Within half an hour of submitting my report a Colas Contractor is preparing to patch a couple of deep holes outside Holland House - he is using a disc cutter and because he's not damping down the dust, it is going everywhere. Who does their Method Statements and Risk Assessments? It doesn't seem to include the lost road surface immediately adjacent to where he is working - another half job, another lost opportunity to do the job properly. Finally are they going to seal these patches or just leave them to blow again? Regards James Walker

  • When are you ever going to do something properly? Earlier this week a total of five wagons - yes five - turned up and spent about fifteen minutes to discover they had been sent to repair a hole that had been patched a few weeks back. I asked one of the operatives why they were not repairing the rest of the damage that they were parked over and I was told that job was too big for them!

So the question is repeated when are you going to carry out the remedial works need over the whole length of Church Street and Halfleet - the main thoroughfare - north/south through Market Deeping ( we are in Lincolnshire you know)

Whilst walking my dogs yesterday morning at 11am, I had to step to the left on the pavement to avoid pedestrians. My left left foot buckled and I fell into a deep trench running along the perimeter of the garden adjacent to the pavement. The fence of the property seemed to be set back from the pavement leaving the trench exposed and very dangerous for pedestrians (see photos). I severely twisted my foot and graved my knee on the other leg a ripped my jogging bottoms in the process. I spent the afternoon in A & E as a result. (Photos attached). As a result of this occurrence I have lost double time at work on a Bank Holiday and a horse riding lesson on Tuesday and the cost of my joggers.

  • I think we are now at the stage to escalate this issue to a formal complaint. Two years since your contractor damaged sections of Church Street and the on going damage to both Church Street and Halfleet leaves the main highway through Market Deeping looking like a country lane that is rarely used - Just like Meadow Hall Road in DSJ which has recently not only been planned and partially resurfaced but has now received surface dressing - is there a plan to divert all north bound traffic on to this minor road or is the Highways Department just incompetent or perhaps negligent - nothing has been done to deal with the problems report in the last two or three months so I would now like this to be regarded as a formal complaint - I don't want your no reply responses - just some action please!!!

  • Your response of today’s date is not acceptable - works scheduled - means nothing. As I asked before I require responses to all the points I raised in repeated “Updates” I regard you response as incompetent or negligent. I want answers and action - now!
