Hedge cuttings blocking verge.

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction on pavement/verge category anonymously at 18:52, Sun 14 March 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 391997.

The hedge opposite my property was cut last October/November. Since then the cuttings have not been removed. They are an eyesore and restrict access to the grass verge, especially for horses which represents a real danger as this is a very fast bit of road.

  • Concern about large branches left in dyke and on verge after hedge trimmed which would cause flooding issues and difficulty for verge trimming.

  • We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because because whilst we can appreciate that this may present an eyesore from your property, after attending site on 15th March, we do not feel as though these are a safety concern as there is still a section of the verge that is clear of branches for horses, pedestrians and cars alike. Also, from the site inspection, it does not appear as though these cutting were done by a council contractor so you would need to contact the land owner directly. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • The farmer who owns the hedge and had a contractor cut it is refusing to do anything about it until at least September 2021 on the grounds that he has no where to put it. that is not true. He also now claims he cannot move the debris because of birds nesting, which is nonsense. Is there nothing you can do?

  • As the local flood authorities and part of the dyke is blocked I would ask again as your local county councilor to ask that the remaining hedging materials is removed. As a horse rider I would have concerns about thorns accessing the animal, for such a small area that has been left and that the amount of flooding we have had in the area I would ask again that you contact the landowner for them to complete the job and remove what is left of the hedging. This problem has not been fixed
