Traffic mirror required
Reported via mobile in the Obstruction on road/cycleway category anonymously at 19:34, Mon 15 March 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 392108.
Could residents of Whitehorse Lane in Boston have a traffic mirror installed please? Anyone leaving the main residential road is forced to pull up in the middle of High Street junction, causing a major accident risk. It is in fact very difficult to see any oncoming traffic from John Adams Way towards High street without pulling the vehicle into the middle of the junction. As the building is obstructing the view towards the drivers right hand side. The residents would much appreciate a traffic mirror towards the right hand side, as it would lower the risk of traffic accidents caused by obstructed view.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because mirrors are classified as a road traffic sign and as they are not prescribed in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD), their use on the highway would require special authorisation by the Department for Transport (DfT). There is particular concern that at night such mirrors can be very confusing to highway users travelling along the road, as they can give the impression of a vehicle headlights approaching from a strange direction. Whilst, we can appreciate your concerns, we will not grant permission for such a mirror to be placed within the highway. Thank you for reporting this matter.
