Continual damage of verge and path outside the Nisa shop

Reported via mobile in the Wheel tracks or ruts category anonymously at 12:58, Sat 20 March 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 392625.

Location: Kesteven Road

The grass verges and paths are continually being damaged by HGVs that frequently deliver to the shop. The verge has been destroyed, the curb is sinking and crumbling on both sides of the entrance. This is both unsightly and dangerous.

This really needs a closer look and can't be repaired by simply laying a little hardcore and going over with a roller (as appears to have been done once before). The issue appears to be, that the entrance way currently isn't wide enough to accommodate HGVs using that entrance in the way that it currently is. Paths and verges can't withstand something of that size and weight driving over them continuosly.

This needs a permanent solution such as:

* Widening the entranceway to a suitable size (as was on the original building plans that never happened). Appropriate signage should also be considered for pedestrians crossing. * Tarmacing this section of verge or perhaps use cobbles as they are on Irnham Road just around the corner. Consideration again needs to be given to the size of the vehicles which will be continuously driving on it. * Divert lorries to use the Drift Road entrance/exit only.

It's also worth noting that there is also extreme damage to the verge on the Drift Road side of the shop, again this is due to HGVs. Unfortunately it isn't possible to share photos due to the max upload of three.

As I've mentioned above this really needs someone to visit for a closer look at the damage all around the shop so that an appropriate solution can be put in place.

  • We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because the verge at this location is going to be repaired later in the year when conditions are more suitable. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • What repair solution have you decided on and have you an idea of when 'later in the year' is? 7.5+ tonne lorries can certainly churn up the ground. Thank you for investigating.

  • Just to add some more context, this is the size of the vehicles that I'm talking about. I've just witnessed this particular lorry mount the kerb, path and verge at two places. Firstly, turning out of the T junction where Lindsey Road joins Kesteven Road (which is also damaged) and then again where there is significant damage at the entrance way to the car park of the shop (see main pics). I'm glad I was stood on the other side of the path.
