Missing barriers on bridge over The Haven
Reported via mobile in the Roadside safety barrier category anonymously at 21:11, Fri 9 July 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 401169.
Barriers over the Haven have been missing for several years. However, after an incident today involving a vehicle falling off the bridge into the water below I would like an highways inspector to come and take a look at this bridge. Fortunately, the vehicle fell backwards over the bridge and the driver escaped with no injuries, just a written off vehicle. Had the vehicle gone down front first we could have been looking at a fatality with a broken neck. I have photographs available of incident but on another phone. As this bridge is on a bad bend, the road being used by more and more traffic, cars, lorries, tractors and other farm implements it is only a matter of time before a serious incident happens. The police were called to this incident.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report. There have been no barriers on this ditch for over 12 years, we do not feel any barriers would be justified, the location of the ditch is no different to may other ditches streams and rivers in rural locations, if a barrier were installed it could potentially worsen the situation if a vehicle hit the end of it, it could take off. The ditch adjacent to the highway and the bend are normal features of a rural highway that a driver should expect and take reasonable care of. Thank you for reporting this matter.
