Unsafe junction - Eastfield Road/The Riverbank
Reported via mobile in the Road markings faded/missing category anonymously at 15:57, Sunday 1 August 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 402506.
Hi there, we live in 119 Eastfield Road, Louth, LN11 7AS. Our parking space is accessed via ‘The Riverbank’ which is a private road running next to our property. We have only lived here for a few weeks but have already had a number of incidents where we have almost had a road accident whilst leaving ‘The Riverbank’ and turning into Eastfield Road. Cars are allowed to park right up to the junction which severely restricts visibility for anyone driving out of the street and the only way you can see if a car is coming is when you pull out onto Eastfield Road, and directly on the line of oncoming traffic. We have spoken to other neighbours who are experiencing the same problem, as well as receiving complaints from guests and delivery drivers. The junction as it stands now is extremely dangerous, and it is only a matter of time before there is an accident.
The possible solutions I think could be either a mirror on the opposite side of the junction (I think maybe on no’s 18-20 Eastfield Road), or putting parking restrictions immediately outside our property, as well as the property on the other side of the junction (117 Eastfield I believe it is)
I would encourage you to drive down The Riverbank and experience first hand how dangerous the junction is.
I’m not sure if this is the correct place to report this problem, but if not then please let me know and I will report in a different way.
Thank you for your report. We will investigate and make an update to this report within 14 days.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report. Lincolnshire County Council policy does not allow the installation of mirrors. Thank you for reporting this matter.

I am sorry but that response is not acceptable.
Whilst seems that resident safety clearly isn't enough of a priority to fall within the remit of a 'policy', that does not absolve the council of taking any responsibility to protect its residents.
The council approved planning permission for the road and properties on it, therefore needs to take some responsibility for the safety of people living there.
Has anyone even taken the time to look into the issue? The junction is not yet on google maps, therefore someone would need to come and see it in person. Has this happened? I would be very interested to know the opinion of the person who actually investigated the issue, or was it simply a case of brushing this off as 'not our problem' and closing this report?
A mirror is not the only solution, it was simply one of many options which will be available to resolve the issue.
As per my last update, if you are unwilling/unable to help with the issue then please point me in the direction of someone who will help.
The junction is unsafe, and I expect some action to be taken to improve it.
