Overgrown trees and shrubs obstructing footpath
Reported via desktop in the Overgrown tree/hedges category anonymously at 16:39, Mon 16 August 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 403291.
The footpath along Barrier Bank (Cowbit Road) between Locks Farm and the Junction with Fen End Lane is unfit for purpose, posing a significant risk to life. Not only has a stretch of the path been 'closed' due to embankment slippage (an issue which I believe the Council have been well aware of for years, yet have so far failed to act on any improvement), but also the open part of the footpath is now obstructed by overgrown Leylandii hedges and other shrubs. Consequently pedestrians have to step out into the 60MPH carriageway, to get past the obstruction. As a resident of Fen End Lane I am a regular user of this public footpath, and have seen the condition deteriorate year on year. Such neglect and lack of action to improve a dangerous situation is unacceptable.

Thank you for your enquiry. We are aware of the condition of this footway and when we last developed a cost estimate to repair in 2010, this short stretch of footway construction was priced at £250k due to bank stabilisation work required. We are aware of the need to resolve this and are seeking ways of funding this work. Thank you for reporting this matter.

Council ref: 403291 Further to my previous report, you haven't actually addressed the issue of the overgrown hedges along the stretch of footpath that is NOT closed. PLEASE can you send contractors out to cut back the hedges / shrubs. As you can see from the photos attached, it is almost impossible to walk on the path, due to the overgrowth. The traffic flows at 60 mph along that stretch of road, resulting in a a significant risk to life for anyone walking along the footpath, having to step out in the road wto avoid the branches. I await your positive response to this issue.
