Flooding from Highway into private [roerty

Reported via desktop in the Flooding category anonymously at 13:05, Wed 15 September 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 405237.

I selected the most appropriate topic, but there is no risk to life, just property. I have enclosed photographs previously. The complaint has been twice closed with no action taken by LCC. The comment that the drains have been cleaned and running freely does not hold water (excuse the pun) as that only holds good on the day they were cleaned - a bit like an MOT test. You should be aware that the Tallington Parish Council (PC) is in contact with LCC about the general poor state of drains in our village. I have today raised my particular concern to the PC. As to your comment that the householder should install their own private drains if the problem persists is, in my opinion, facetious and not the sort of comment I would expect from an organisation which is funded by Council Tax payers. Water is flowing from a road for which you have responsibility over a dropped kerb and pavement for which you are also responsible. Furthermore, after a torrential downpour some years ago which flooded my garage and tripped the electricity supply (Extension lead on the floor) I did install a drain and a soakaway. This does not absolve you from preventing the flooding happening in less than torrential conditions. I ask you again to raise the height of the dropped kerb and improve the drainage to prevent flooding in normal rainy conditions.

I would also like to know if there is a standard height requirement for a dropped kerb and does the kerb at my location meet that requirement?

  • As it some 6+ months since the work required was surveyed and marked, I would like to know when the work is scheduled to fix this problem.

  • Last night I was out in the heavy rain sandbagging the area of the false door into my property. Water was pouring off the highway over the 1.5cm dropped kerb and threatened to flood the area. The only action I have been informed of since my last report above when Chris (Chandler?) called referring to Job 5623206 which was to remove the half dropped kerb and replace with 8 standard kerbstones. I note that this job number is different to the report number above. Will you please investigate this and inform me of what progress is being made to carry out this work and when and under which job number?
