New road markings of cycle symbol on road closed to vechicles.

Reported via desktop in the Sign (unlit) category by Thomas Jarvis at 18:32, Mon 27 September 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 406034.

On Handley Street as well as around the town centre of Sleaford cycle symbols (dia 1057) have been painted on the carriageway in the centre of lane(s). Whilst in general this seems odd since they don't make up part of a cycle route, but two cycle symbols have been painted on Handley Street going Westbound only. One of these symbols is on a road that is closed to all vehicles, so the new symbol is in direct confliction with the signage. Please could the markings here be removed, or change the TRO/signage to be "no motor vehicles" instead of "no vehicles"

  • We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report. On Handley Street, it may well state this in terms of access but all we are doing is making drivers aware that there may be more cyclists around so they are more of a safety feature and local awareness feature and are not changing the status of any road in terms of the usage and restrictions on usage. We are looking at increasing people's awareness of what may be using the road is a positive in our view, not only here but across the centre of the town. Thank you for reporting this matter.

State changed to: No further action
