Several Dangerous Deep Pot Holes & Blocked Drains

Reported via desktop in the Pothole on road/cycleway category anonymously at 17:00, Thu 28 October 2021

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 408151.

Dangerous Pot Holes/Road Surface

This section of Old Hall Lane has been in a poor state for over 12 months, even though Highways have been on the odd occasion to tamp in some loose tarmac in the smaller pot holes. These “repairs” only lasted a matter of weeks. The road (Old Hall Lane) joins at the junction with Herdgate Lane and is heavily used with HGVs delivering and collecting from businesses in the area. Also there has been a new operating centre for HGVs recently given approval directly opposite the affected area. I have no issue with this company, their vehicles are driven with consideration, but are unable to negotiate the corner without having to run on the grass verge. The verge has been eroded away causing mud build up which is constantly blocking the drains. The junction with Old Hall Lane was partially kerbed 40 years ago, but with the size of vehicles now this has proved to be totally inadequate for the HGVs and heavy farm machinery vehicles to negotiate the junction. The consequence of this is the road failure causing another deep pot hole against the drain gulley.

Old Hall Lane / Herdgate Lane junction is not only used by HGVs and tractors but by many people who travel to work daily at the businesses close by and all of the residents. It has become increasingly dangerous for them to try and avoid these potholes particularly in the dark. You can see from the photos just 2 of them and the damaged drain that is close to collapse.

The solution of this is to widen the angle of the corner to allow these large vehicles to negotiate it properly. And to permanently repair the many pot holes along this stretch of road.

Highways sent a suction lorry about eight weeks ago to suck out the drain gulley’s on Old Hall Lane, but to no avail as the connecting pipes underground are all blocked solid with mud and the road still floods in several areas every time it rains.

Can you please send a surveyor to come and inspect this mess.

Thank you.
