Existing sign is inaccurate and doesn't warn of main hazard
Reported via desktop in the Sign (unlit) category by Andy Porter at 14:36, Wed 24 November 2021
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410257.
Alexander Road provides the only vehicular access to 174 homes. Both it and Wolsey Way have been adopted as highways that are maintainable at public expense. There is a road sign [pictured] at the junction of those roads, warning of speed humps, with text indicating that one is 250 yards ahead. The text below the sign is inaccurate, because the first speed hump is some 50 (not 250) yards from the sign. The humps are not particularly hazardous: they are easily visible. There is a much greater hazard on the estate, of which no warning is currently given by street signs: in the absence of a formal children’s play area in the estate, unsupervised youngsters have taken to playing on the roads themselves, particularly in Sanderson Road, where there is a small unfenced open space from which they will often run into the highway, regardless of any delivery vans, cars, etc., that may be approaching. Is the Council therefore willing to replace the current sign with one warning a children playing, please? Alternatively, if the Council wants to retain the current sign, is the Council willing to replace the inaccurate text with wording warning of children playing, please?
I have been asked to raise this issue by the Committee of the Minster Fields Community Group, which was created by residents of the ongoing Minster Fields housing development in Lincoln.
The first house in Alexander Road was occupied in the autumn of 2013 and presumably the sign was erected at some later date.
