Pavement overgrown and obstructed by thick mud and leaves

Reported via desktop in the Trip hazard/uneven surface category anonymously at 12:05, Tuesday 8 February 2022

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 416722.

The pavement along Eastfield Road on the entrance to Louth is obstructed and overgrown creating hazards for pedestrians. This is to the west of Ticklepenny Drive. There are two issues.

1. The pavement has been allowed to narrow over recent years with mud, vegetation and general debris building up against the grass verge. See photos. This has settled and now the pavement is much narrower than when constructed. This build-up needs to be dug out and the pavement needs to be cleared to its original width.

2. The lack of maintenance and cleaning over the winter months has led to the pavement being covered in mud and leaves. In certain parts there is only a small part of the pavement which is walkable, and not a trip / slip hazard. There needs to be a thorough sweep of the surface and all mud and leaves cleared up to reinstate the solid asphalt pavement beneath.

Both of these issues have created a dangerous route for pedestrians along one of the main routes in to Louth. Although the speed limit is 30mph, many vehicles are travelling much faster. There is not space for two people to walk past each other, so someone has to step in the road. This is unacceptable.

Could the council attend to thoroughly clear and remove the mud and leaves which have built up over recent years please? Restoring the pavement to a much wider and safe walking route, as originally designed, would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

  • Thank you for clearing and cleaning the footpath! This is so much better, and far safer. As local walkers, we really appreciate this. Hopefully this footpath is maintained frequently and gets any mud and leaves cleared more often. Thank you again.
