Deep flowing water on pavement

Reported via desktop in the Flooding category anonymously at 22:36, Wed 23 March 2022

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 420943.

The only pavement through Greetwell Hollow frequently floods to a depth of 5 - 10 cm. The water flows from within the nature reserve and along the pavement for a distance of approx 50metres. The only option for pedestrians is to walk along the road, which at this point is very dangerous for pedestrians to do! The road at this location is subject to a 60mph limit, although being a single carriageway with 2 lanes it is quite narrow and visibility is limited due to the bends. Since the Eastern Relief Road opened the volume of traffic and the number of pedestrians has noticeably increased. Pedestrians are putting their lives at risk by trying to avoid walking in the water and walking in the vehicle carriageway. There is a ditch within the nature reserve on the opposite side of the fence adjacent to the pavement, it only needs drainage gulleys digging to allow the water to run away from the pavement and into the ditch. THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN ON 23RD MARCH - DURING A RELATIVELY DRY PERIOD WHEN THERE HAD NOT BEEN SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I also have a video from 3rd Jan 2022 when the water was flowing along the pavement like a stream.

  • I reported deep standing water on the pavement at Greetwell Hollow in March 2022 and the response from LCC highways was that “works are scheduled”, almost 12 months later no action has been taken and the problem is just as bad - the attached photo was taken 17.01.2023. The pavement is unusable due to deep water, the verge is narrow and it is too dangerous to walk on the road at that point due to the restricted views on the bends. There are also no kerbs at that point to protect pedestrians using either the pavement or the verge from the cars using the road at this point, bearing in mind the tempeh speed limit, the bends and the fact that traffic is travelling downhill at speed.

  • Great news, we’ve had a look at the issue and we have now passed to our Highways Officers for the team to assess what can be done to resolve the matter. We’ll let you know when the assessment has taken place.
