The public street lighting unit attached to Grantham House was hit by a HGV sometime between April 2011 and September 2014 based on Google Street view images. Your own inspection regime will have a more accurate formal date of the damage to this unit.
I appreciate that a lighting unit attached to a property is more problematic to reinstate but you do have a statutory responsibility to maintain public street lighting once it has been provided.
I reported this originally in January 2017 under reference 101000180521, which you cleared as complete, which is clearly not the case. Based on your own KPIs you give yourself a year to rectify these sort of issues. I sincerely hope that now more than 5 years have passed since my original report you will treat this with more urgency.
Even without my reports your own inspections will have picked this up as an asset strike. The location was showing as your asset in 2017 on your systems and still shows as an asset in 2022 on fix my street.
The unit illuminates a blind corner where there is no pavement as you step across from Church Street onto Castlegate which means that as a pedestrian you are required to step into the live carriageway. Therefore this presents a significant safety concern during the hours of darkness which includes school crossing periods in the winter months. The location is on a busy pedestrian thoroughfare between Wyndham Park/Kings School and the town centre, and is a designated school crossing area for the National Junior School as indicated by the signage in the pictures.
I would appreciate an acknowledgement of the fact that the unit is no longer present rather than simply clearing the fault and that the unit will be replaced (or a suitable provision will be provided in the locality to illuminate the blind corner in question) within a suitable timeframe.
Please could you also confirm based on your own inspections how many years this unit has been marked as struck, but no action taken.
