Road defects causing vibrations
Reported via mobile in the Pothole on road/cycleway category by Glen Fryer at 11:33, Wed 25 January 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 445616.
Long line of defects in the road reported back in April last year. Steadily getting worse, still making our house shake when lorries pass, five loud bangs in quick succession. Our children are regularly woken at night. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because this area is not at intervention and may be scheduled for surface dressing owing to surface wearing. There are many factors affecting the transmission of noise and vibration in properties which are adjacent to carriageways, including noise nuisance through HGV tyres, transmissions through utility or private apparatus, for example underground sewer pipes. Other factors include soil types, moisture content of the soils, distance from the source and also the depth and condition of the foundation and the condition of the structure of the property. If you believe you have suffered any loss, either by noise and/or vibration, you should contact your insurance provider who may investigate the matter via an independent Engineer and may ultimately pursue a claim. Alternatively, you may wish to commission your own engineering investigation which would include a survey on your building. Thank you for reporting this matter.

Thank you for your response, however, even as comprehensive as it is, it doesn’t address the issue at all. Just by watching the area for a couple of minutes, it’s obvious to all that there is nothing else causing our house to shake, it is lorries hitting the defects in the road. Surface dressing will not fix the issue, it’s a cheap ineffective method that just covers an extended area to make it look nice but over time (within a few months) the same defects will cause the same issue again. Apart from that, surface dressing causes a massive increase to road noise, something that should not be acceptable in a residential area. Also, to ask our children to put up with disruptive sleep further still is again unacceptable. Please reconsider.

We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because there are no defects as per management plan, some undulations and reflective bumps likely from old utility works. Defects have recently germ repaired at the culvert. Reactive patching not enough, will need resurfacing to rectify. PRN location so lab and TSP will select site from data. No action from reactive team at present time. Thank you for reporting this matter.
