Southern side of Mill Lane.

Reported via desktop in the Visibility at junction or bend category anonymously at 14:16, Monday 27 February 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 449324.

Hedge / bush needs a trim, not massacre. This will allow use of road verge and vehicles to see. Also pothole needs filling.

  • As the Highway Authority for Lincolnshire. LCC has a statutory duty to ensure the safety of the highway, and this includes the cutting of grass verges where grass impedes visibility at road junctions or through bends. In addition to this we also cut a 1.1m width alongside the road edge in rural areas for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users to use as a refuge when required where there are no footways. Our current policy is to undertake 3 safety cuts per annum to all highway verges either with our contractors or under agreements with local Councils in some urban areas. Some verges are much wider than the 1.1m cut and the remaining area is left to encourage biodiversity. No further action is therefore being taken in response to this or further similar emails and similar requests. Highway Officers in the local areas will pick up safety issues relating to visibility at junctions where there is a need to have residents or land owners cut back their private hedges to assist. There is a legally agreed letter process for this which will be followed. If the pothole has not yet been reported on Fix-My-Street then it would be appreciated if it could be. A Highways Officer will visit the site and arrange repairs. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • Again another astonishing reply to do nothing. This protruding vegetation vehicles cannot see easily around it, so move out towards oncoming traffic. Pedestrians cannot get on to road verge to void speeding vehicles. They have to get on to wider part of road and be endanger to speeding vehicles. Road verge is part of public highway and LCC is under Statute to ensure safety for pedestrians.
