Drainage channel across pavement outside 25 Carline Road
Reported via desktop in the Trip hazard/uneven surface category anonymously at 14:25, Monday 27 March 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 453029.
Following works to install cables underneath the pavement of the northern side of Carline Road (City Fibre - works finished 27/03/23), the drainage channel on the pavement outside of 25 Carline Road has been left in an unsafe condition. The stone drainage channel that directed roof water gutter collection, across the pavement, into the gully of the road and down to a rainwater drain in the road, was cut through, broken and part removed during the cable installation. The stone drainage channel should have been either left in place and cables placed under or removed as a single piece and then re-instated. The drainage channel has not been appropriately replaced and what is now present is a mix of broken, cracked and loose pavement topping with the drainage path blocked by a strip of new tarmac with a portion of the former stone channel now sitting ‘loose and elevated’ beyond this tarmac. In the current condition, not only is the pavement a loose footing and trip hazard but also will present a slip hazard on the inclined pavement during cold weather. Rainwater/frost/snow melt from the roof of 25 Carline Road will no longer be directed to the gully of the road and on to drain but will spill over onto the pavement and freeze to create an ‘ice sheet’ slip hazard on the steeply inclined pavement. A new stone drainage channel should be installed and the uneven surface around the channel made good with appropriate grading with a new top surface.
