Edge of road deteriorated. Very near miss for a nasty accident.
Reported via mobile in the Pothole on road/cycleway category anonymously at 18:48, Fri 5 May 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 458050.
Edge of the road has deteriorated. Pothole has formed. I'd estimate at least 50cm long and 30cm wide with a depth around 7-8 cm. Five Gates Lane heading from Londonthorpe Lane towards Belton. At the bottom of the first stretch where the roads bends to the right (the area prone to flooding). While trying to avoid a dog in the road (half way across the right had side, and was either off it's leash or on a very loose leash as the owner was climbing over a stile) I ran wide at the bend to allow extra room as by the time it was visible there was no time to brake. I just dipped the rear wheel into this pothole which caused the back of the car to step out. Took a double correction to regain control. Could easily have spun or rolled the car, or had a head on collision had something been coming the other way as I was correcting the slide. Camber of the back wheel is massively out now and I will be seeking advice from a garage ASAP. Suspect the rear axle is shot and will need replacing as it is a fixed beam rear axle design with no means of camber adjustment.

I see this has still not been repaired. Haven't even seen any tell tale paint marks that the crews use on areas to be repaired. There has been some other pothole work within a mile or two of this though. Not sure if it has been missed. As previously stated it was lucky I managed to correct the car or it would easily have either spun out or rolled and might have been a write off or a very serious accident. Can this be chased up?
