High Street, Navenby, between 44 and 46 lay-by

Reported via mobile in the Road Markings category anonymously at 12:23, Tue 16 May 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 459223.

"H" bar worn and faded, resulting in a significant increase in obstructive parking blocking vehicular access to and from both 44 and 46 High Street. From previous experience over many years (40+) it has been noted that when the "H" bar becomes worn obstructive parking increases to problem levels, and this is starting to happen again now, though there is no reasonable excuse as the bar is still visible. If you can help by refreshing the "H" bar it would be much appreciated, it will have an effect. Daytime and evening parking in the High Street is always in heavy demand and spaces limited, resulting in driveway access being blocked, often by people who can not be bothered to use the Co-Op park at the rear of the store.

  • Report reference number 459223 ‘H’ bar 44 - 46 High Street, Navenby. Thank you for looking at the above matter, and your response (‘whilst it has deteriorated it does not yet require further action’), though disappointing, was not totally unexpected. My wife is disabled (Blue badge reference MABKKE 0 0550Y0326) and can only walk short distances with difficulty and aided by a stick. With increasing age has come increasing requirements for medical related appointments both locally (Navenby Surgery, Waddington Surgery, Waddington pharmacy and Lincoln County Hospital) and further afield (occasionally to Boston and there is an appointment at Louth Hospital coming up on June 1st). Preparations for these appointments can be difficult, and then to be confronted by a car parked in the driveway entrance blocking our exit ensures that stress level increase substantially. Waiting for 15 or 20 minutes for the driver to appear and be told that he (or, more usually, she) had just ‘popped into the Co-Op for 2 minutes’ does not help, nor did the couple who decided to have a drink in the ‘Lion and Royal’ and abandoned their vehicle on the ‘H’ bar despite the pub car park being almost empty. We have not missed an appointment yet, but it has been a very close call on more than one occasion. I know from years of previous experience that an ‘H’ bar in good condition does have a deterrent effect, and significantly reduces obstructive parking. A worn ‘H’ bar encourages the illegal parking, as is happening now. I will add that, to the best of my knowledge, there has been no enforcement action ever undertaken in Navenby in my time here and I am of an age were I do not enjoy confrontations with the inconsiderate parkers. Please will you reconsider your decision, and I would be very grateful if you have any suggestions on how to improve the situation. Regards, Paul Sanderson.
