Junction of A17 at Beckingham with Chapel St
Reported via iOS in the Visibility at junction or bend category anonymously at 13:22, Sun 6 August 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 467338.
The trees and bushes on the A17 at the junction with Chapel Street Beckingham have become overgrown and need work to improve the site line for traffic trying to leave the village to join the A17. It’s bad enough for car drivers but cyclists trying to cross the carriage way here have two lanes of fast moving traffic to negotiate and have less speed to cross the road safely. Please as a matter of urgency cut the trees and hedges back along the A17 at the junction to give those leaving the village enough of a sight line and response time to get on to the A17 safely. This is also a fatal accident black spot so important the sight lines are maintained

The assessment made by the Highways Officer fails to take account that’s cyclists cannot cross the A17 here safely. Cars are approaching at 60mph plus. There is a bend on A17 before the village and the far bushes and trees obscure the fast approaching cars, reducing substantially the reaction time for a cyclist to cross two lanes of the A17. A dangerous place even for cars. This decision needs an urgent review and for the Highways officer concerned to cross the road here using a bicycle
