Junction of Church Road and Mill Lane

During heavy or extended rainfall the roadside drains are not draining quickly enough and the excess water remains on the Church Road surface on either side and sometimes these puddles meet in the middle, this is a hazard to road users and pedestrians. Recently Highways (I think) attended and uncovered a manhole on the verge which was buried at least a 30cm below the surface. Apparently the pipe from the road culvert was blocked to this chamber. Then the water is supposed to drain away like a soak away according to the Highways guys. Today (12/09/2023) not only did Church Road flood all the way over but so did the drive of 61 Church Road, which is on Mill Lane just before the junction because the recently found drain chamber came over the top. We have lived here for 32 years and this flooding has only started since the most recent housing estates on Sturton Road and Church Lane were started. After the rain has virtually stopped the water seems to drain away but the problem is still an accident waiting to happen.

Thunderstorm at 4am this morning. Attached photo’s of water at junction and rediscovered manhole on verge taken just before 8am. As you can see car turning left into Church Road is going over the centre line. Plus the new manhole cover is submerged and the water has crossed to the adjacent drive.

Problem is not fixed! Gulley team were here last week and sucked out as much debris as they could. But they felt there was still a problem with the outlet pipe from the recently rediscovered chamber near the hedge on the left on the first photo. They concluded that a camera team may be required to see whether there was pipe collapse. Since the chamber was rediscovered and cleared the water is now lying on our driveway. As you can see from the other two photos the water is still a major hazard at the road junction. Today is the first real rainfall since gulley team were here.

Once again after rainfall the road is flooded and therefore the junction is dangerous for all users, road and pedestrians! Also our drive on Mill Lane floods over after rainfall like this morning. Although I was not expecting the problem to be fixed quickly I was expecting some feedback as to what might be the problem and some idea of what was needed to be done rather than nothing. Is a camera team planned to be despatched to look down the drain yet, as suggested by the previous gully cleaning team last year?

One hours worth of rain has created the flood as seen in the attached photos. Our access to the Mill Lane is flooded over. This continual flooding is causing damage to the pavement. Both grass verges either side of our drive access are under water. The water has almost reached the centre line on Church Road on the one side. This situation is a hazard to all users, whether drivers or riders or pedestrians. I struggle to understand why you can’t provide any updates on this issue, especially as it was registered with you back in 2023 and you have even taken some remedial action which obviously hasn’t worked. Please let me know what you think the problem is and some time frame as to when you will resolve it.

Are you planning to give us any feedback on the persistent flooding at the junction of Church Road and Mill Lane in Saxilby? Once again the water has flooded our drive as well as the road junction. The verges either side of our drive are submerged although that is not so clear in the photo’s. The pavement is also breaking up adding a further hazard for pedestrians other than getting soaked by inattentive drivers. Please let us know what is wrong with the drainage that used to work. This does seem to have only been a problem since the increase in traffic created by the building of the two new housing estates.

First rainfall for a while. Certainly since Church Road resurfaced. As the picture shows water is accumulating on the road surface still. If the rain carries on this will only get worse. The drain is obviously restricted somewhere, probably under the road just resurfaced!
