Oakwell, Church Lane, Brandon

Reported via mobile in the Damaged dyke, ditch or culvert category anonymously at 10:37, Mon 23 October 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 475726.

An inconvenience may now become a health hazard. Church Lane regularly floods in heavy rain. This has previously been reported. Some investigation has been undertaken but there has been no remedial action. The investigation earlier this year identified a damaged or blocked culvert that runs under our land. At the best of times, the narrow culvert has a lot of work to do as it has to deal with water from the road drains in Church Lane as well as treated waste water from our property and that of a neighbour. The system is inadequate to deal with heavy rain. Our sewage treatment facility (a Klargester) is currently inoperative due to the motor being flooded because the culvert could not deal with the volume of rain trying to run away from the road. We have had this investigated this morning and there is no quick solution. We are advised that after replacing the motor (at a cost of £650), it will blow again as soon as there is heavy rain. Attached photographs were taken on Friday 20/10/23. The water has now receded but our waste problems continue due to inadequate infrastructure.

  • Hello Lincolnshire County Council. You promised an update within 14 days of 23 October. 5 weeks later, we are yet to hear a reply.

It’s raining heavily again today. The road is flooding and drains are unable to cope.

I’m not expecting miracles - and you may well have higher priorities. But it would be good to know that dealing with this chronic issue in our village is at least on someone’s “to do” list.

    Thank you
