100 metres of roadway outside Manor Barn & The Bungalow Greetham
Reported via mobile in the Other road surface issue category by David Ashton Hill at 17:17, Thu 26 October 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 476339.
This is an ongoing problem that has been going on for several years. There are three storm drains along this stretch of the highway two westside and one east side these drains are piped to a point north of The Chantry on the westside where they discharge into an open ditch. The drains do work after several hours maybe a day as the pipes seem to e damaged and indeed to be silted up. These photos were taken at 5pm on Thursday 26 October after the rain had stopped for a few hours. The state is unacceptable but nothing like the problems caused on Friday 20 October when I was too busy pumping water from my property to take photographs. Great news, we’ve had a look at the issue and we have now passed to our Highways Officers for the team to assess what can be done to resolve the matter. We’ll let you know when the assessment has taken place.

The Highways team did attend for two days at the end of last month. They did ensure that the 3 gulleys and drains in between were clear and running free between them. This, however is not the main problem which is the underground drain from the NW gulley to the open ditch has been blocked with silt for a very long time. I have written to Lincolnshire Highways with a plan and a proposal to insert 2 new gulleys along the lenght of the underground drain which is about 160 metres long. By this means the underground drain can be more easily rodded and the problem then sorted. The road has been underwater for a considerable time about 7 times this month and I am very fed up with this problem which has been ongoing for several years. Not only does my property get invaided with silt, mud and water but it affects my deliveries of post and the collection of my waste/recycling bins. Please now do something to stop this flooding.

Lincolnshire Highways has asked me to respond by e-mail rather than by post. I assume that postal correspondence has to be filed. I have written to Lincolnshire Highways to ask them to allow me to employ a drainage contractor to do the work at my cost but I have no reply from Lincolnshire Highways and my e-mail access to them is blocked. All I can do now is to make a formal complain and to contact my busy MP. Rather a pathetic response from this authority.
