Flooding on Road / gardens from Goulceby Beck

Reported via desktop in the Flowing water, no risk to life or property category anonymously at 13:22, Tue 31 October 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 476984.

On Friday 20th October there was an incident of too much rain / surface water overflowing the Goulceby Beck within Goulceby village. We noted Butt Lane and over the road bridge on Watery Lane had too much ‘fast flowing water’. We had to park our vehicle in a neighbouring property and climbed through the hedge. We had no warnings as our property is unlikely to flood being elevated from the road. We did realise there could be a problem when the Beck was high in the morning around 9.00am. However, access to our property and others along Butt Lane & possibly Watery Lane, could not be accessed or receive any essential deliveries. The water was exceptionally ‘fast flowing’ coming from upstream and was passing through to the River Bain at some rate. The photos do not show the worst time, 30 minutes later (approx 3.00pm), it was up to the entrance level before subsiding near 5pm. I have a video, but cannot upload showing the flow rate. My stepson advises the flow rate was similar and only a little higher in 2007. I have been advised by a property near the Ford, they had water up half the garden and presumably all properties from there to the Bridge would have been affected in some way. This has happened to us in 2007, 2017 (or 2019) and again in 2023. I would like to be re-assured this is connected to the Horncastle flood alleviation scheme completed in 2016 or be reviewed. Thanks.
