Corner of Moat Lane and Beck Street, Welbourn, LN5 0LZ
Reported via desktop in the Damaged dyke, ditch or culvert category by Welbourn Parish Clerk at 13:35, Thu 9 November 2023
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 478292.
The grate at the end of Moat Lane on the same side of the road as the Archdeacon's House drains into a culvert which goes around the corner in front of the Archdeacon's House and into a ditch. There is no water running in that ditch. The gulley in Moat Lane is clear of debris, therefore there must be a blockage in the culvert as it goes around the corner. The standing water problem was reported on Sunday but still has still not been sorted, that's why I'm reporting this again. It is essential that this grate / culvert works properly. If not the north end of the village is vulnerable to immediate flooding.

After the heavy rain early this morning the flooding problem has got much worse. Please see the photograph. Heavy lorries, tractors and buses have to pass through this every day. This creates bow waves which flood into Old Place. As previously reported I have removed leaves from the grate and the gulley. A neighbour has revealed an old plastic drainage pipe which has acted as an ad hoc drain leading to the ditch in Beck Street. However this is not able to cope with the volume of water. I am receiving complaints from the villagers. The way to resolve this is to clear the culvert from the grate in Moat Lane which takes the water into the ditch outside the Old Rectory in Beck Street. It should be a very straight forward job but requires special equipment to clear a blockage in a pipe bend.

The above three photos were taken yesterday. As you can see the gulley is still flooded. The culvert connected to this gulley is blocked and needs to be rodded out. This will then drain the road. This flooded road means LCC is unable to repair the significant potholes that have developed over the last few weeks. (This has a separate reference number now showing as completed). Filling potholes with loose gravel the other day is not going to work especially when there are when this is a bus route and HGVs using the road every day. This is becoming a major talking point in the village and needs to be sorted properly without delay..
