Bailey Walls, Skeldyke Road. Kirton. PE20 1LR

Reported via mobile in the Collapsed verge category anonymously at 09:11, Mon 27 November 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 480329.

The verge directly outside my house has been badly eroded by farm vehicles over the past 2 months. The verge has now collapsed a foot beyond the road edge causing an enormous 10 foot long hazard. When it rains this fills with water and passing vehicles have no option but to drive straight through it as the damage to the road surface is on a blind bend, making it unsafe for vehicles to pull out to avoid the water. This water is splashing the front wall of my house and is causing damp patches inside the house due to the penetrating water from the front wall of the house. This is a serious hazard - it can only be a matter of time before a collision is caused by vehicles trying to avoid the water and the non existent road surface underneath the flooding.

  • Hello, I'd like to know exactly when you came to "investigate" this?? I was here all day yesterday and all day today and I can assure you that no vehicle from highways actually visited the area outside of my house and most certainly no inspector got out of any vehicle to do an inspection. Consequently, I want you to revisit the site for the damaged area and actually knock on my door so that I can show your inspector the significant damage to both the verge and the tarmac and also outline the (obvious) serious hazard that this is causing. I will also be providing photographic evidence of this hazard to both the parish and county councils as well as the local news outlets. I have also already spoken to my solicitor regarding the penetrating water damage to the front wall of my house that is being caused by highways' clear negligence in leaving the road in the state where a huge volume of water is being allowed to pool and he said that highways will be clearly liable to pay for remedial works to my house to fix the damage being caused both externally and internally. I await your prompt reply as a matter of urgency.
