Corner Back Lane and Craypool Lane

Reported via desktop in the Standing water covering more than half the road category anonymously at 13:32, Thu 28 December 2023

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 484741.

It only rained for about 10 minutes and the road is totally flooded again. This happens every time it rains because the run off water goes down your drain which you have piped into the Anglian Water sewer. AW have to deal with rainwater as sewage and then offload sewage from Northing Lane into the environment. This is a matter I am referring to Environment Dept. You need your own pipes!!

  • We are sorry we are not taking immediate action on this request. The Council is already aware of the overall carriageway condition on Craypool Lane from previous drainage works and whilst major work is being considered to mitigate the issues described no timescales for these can be provided at this time. Please be aware that all roads are inspected for safety and condition at a frequency in accordance with Council policy. Please note that Section 299 of the Highways Act gives the highway authority the right for surface water drains to discharge into “any inland waters, whether natural or artificial, or any tidal water”. These will include watercourses, which may be privately owned and so the responsibility of the riparian owner. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • Thank you for your response. You quoted section 299 of the Highways Act and under part 2 of that provision which I append, I wish to claim compensation for the loss of use of my toilet - 4 times in the last 5 days, say £100 in round figures. This is by reason of your piping rainwater into an Anglian Water sewer that cannot accommodate it. Please email me Janeeb53@hotmail.com for my bank details so your payment to me can be made.

  • I also wish to claim for being marooned in my property for a day and unable to get my car out due to depth of rain water. This is by reason of your piping rainwater into a sewer that cannot accommodate it, another £25 should cover that loss of amenity. Contact email for bank details as above.

  • You may also wish to come and clean up the mud and debris left on the road which otherwise might go down the drain and end up in the Anglian Water Sewer resulting in a claim for compensation from them!
