Casthorpe Road. Outside The Old Smithy.

Reported via mobile in the Loose/missing/chipped kerbstone category anonymously at 12:04, Thu 25 January 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 490578.

Cars occasionally drive on the verge despite the road being plenty wide enough for two cars. I think this is because there is a lot of school and park traffic and when they open doors, people try to go round when it is unsafe, rather than waiting for a child to get into the car.

My main cause for concern is the presence of our external stop tap, which was installed last year by Anglian Water after a leak under our living room (there wasn’t one previously!) You can see in the photos that cracks have formed from where traffic has driven over it and we are concerned that repeated damage from cars will eventually loosen a joint under the surface. It is not concrete all the way down, but rather just a thin layer on top, and then buried in the soil, so I worry about any movement and would like this area to be protected.

It is also a shame that the grass and daffodils get churned up.

I don’t believe concrete bollards would be a very attractive solution, nor in keeping with the area, but perhaps it would be possible to install short wooden posts?

Many thanks for all the great work you all do in the area!

  • We’re sending you this message to let you know that we’ve assessed the verge condition and – whilst it has deteriorated it does not yet require further action. If the fault deteriorates significantly then please report this again to us and we will investigate further. Thank you for reporting this matter.

State changed to: No further action

  • I’m not so much worried about the verge as I am asking you to protect the stop tap outside the house. With the soil constantly being disrupted below, it will cause a leak which could require very expensive repairs.
