The length of Long Lane
Reported via desktop in the Standing water covering more than half the road category anonymously at 18:10, Sat 24 February 2024
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 495847.
This situation has been a problem for over 3 weeks. Unmaintained and insufficient dykes either side of the road have been overflowing and flooding the lane in multiple points (5 as of last night when I drove down it). This is due to the fact that the fields either side of the road are between 30 and 60 cm higher than the road and the unmaintained dykes (in places almost level with the road surface) quickly reach capacity and overflow into the road. HGVs often use this route due to the Moulton Bulb Co being located on the road and the road is in danger of damage as well as drivers being unable to see all the many deep holes at the edge of the road. I aqua planed on the road late night on one of the flooded sections that didn't engulf the whole road and the situation is very dangerous. I am unaware if this is an issue for the land owner or the Drainage Board?

Thanks for getting in touch with us. In this case, we’re not responsible for this issue. This is the responsibility of the riparian landowner. Thank you for reporting this matter.

So are you going to do anything about this danger and undermining of the road or just shrugging your shoulders and ignoring it until after there is an accident? Saying its not our problem when you are responsible for both the maintenance of our infrastructure and the safety of the road using public is just not acceptable! I will be forwarding this issue to Sir John Hayes for the sake of a few phone calls on your part to the landowner you could save the public purse millions and perhaps prevent a family having a funeral to go to. this attitude is just not acceptable!
