  • We're sending you this message to let you know that we've assessed this issue and have identified this location to have the vegetation trimmed back. At this stage we are unable to give specific dates for this as we prioritise these schemes based on condition compared with the rest of the County road network and the resources available to us each year. We will continue to monitor this location as part of our routine inspections of the highway in the meantime. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • Totally appreciate the problem of prioritising jobs against limited budgeting. As you will be aware, Leadenham High Street is a narrow residential road and the majority of houses do not have off road parking or any front garden resulting with vehicles being within a few feet of houses. We have a massive problem with HGVs ignoring the Weight Restriction Order which has been ongoing for many years. About 10-13 illegal vehicles a day on camera. This is one half of the High Street during part of the day. Where a registration number is captured, a report is placed on LCC Lorry Watch One 4ft x 6ft section of pavement at the junction with Post Office Yard, is used by pedestrians, notably, schoolchildren as a route to and from the local school. This section of pavement is often used by HGVs or vehicles coming the opposite way to pass each other. School buses on contract to Sir William Robertson Academy also legally use the High Street. On occasions HGVs, school buses and pedestrians use the PAVEMENT within a few minutes. Lincolnshire Police have recently taken action against HGVs in two similar situations. We are, together with Leadenham Parish Council, pushing Lincolnshire Police for similar action in this area. It is possible that the obstruction of the relevant signage could be used as a defence. In the event of another tragic incident resulting in death or injury to a pedestrian, a similar defence could be offered. Perhaps you would be kind enough to consider this sign clearance as a priority?
