Unsuitable road for diversion route

Reported via desktop in the Other road surface issue category anonymously at 09:14, Friday 28 June 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2810861.

Over the past few years there have been an increasing number of crashes on the A153 leading from speedway roundabout to Anwick, this has often caused complete road closure from the roundabout all the way to North Kyme and a diversion put in place directing traffic down the Ruskington fen road. However, the Ruskington fen road is not suitable as a diversion road, and I believe it is unsafe to send such a large volume of traffic including lorries and farm traffic down this road. On one occasion when I had been diverted down the fen road I lost a tyre to a pothole further adding to the traffic issue. I logged my tyre with the council, and they claimed because they had inspected the road 11 months prior my claim was not valid, and the road was fine. Those potholes have now been filled in, but the road is still not wide enough or good enough quality to justify its use as a diversion route and puts road users in danger when there is a large number of larger vehicles and the road is not wide enough for both to pass safely. Either fix the Ruskington fen road by resurfacing the whole road and widening it to ensure the safety of passing traffic or use alternative diversion routes as it’s only a matter of time before someone loses their life due to this.
