Junction of Grantham Road, Southgate and Mareham Lane traffic lights
Reported via desktop in the Road Markings category anonymously at 18:23, Fri 12 July 2024
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 2812168.
Please paint a yellow box junction at these traffic lights to allow traffic to pass without hindrance
The not untypical scene from my dashcam was been taken at the same time as the red flashing lights for the level crossing barrier begin to flash. All traffic (apart from mine!) in three different directions were occupying the junction whilst the red traffic lights were on and only after the usual shuffling about was I able to use the junction without someone blocking me. Thankfully the range rover made an exit to the right in order to assist, but the black car just edged closer to the gates. All because there is nothing stopping them from doing so.
It's high time the box junction (faded as it is) inside the level crossing (who in their right mind would stop there? (lots of people - fact)) was extended to include the entire junction, not just the railway lines. After all what 'me first' driver is going to argue with 100 tons of rail freight!

We thank you for contacting us and acknowledge your concerns. Unfortunately a yellow box junction would not resolve this issue as vehicles waiting to turn right are permitted to wait in it. Unfortunately some drivers get frustrated at the delays sometimes experienced at this junction and cross the road and queue blocking other routes, we cannot prevent this. We suggest you possibly contact the police to see if they can do anything regarding this. You can contact them at https://www.lincs.police.uk/ Thank you for reporting this matter.
