Extremely deep and damaged area immediately adjacent to the road surface. This has been caused over time by wide wheeled vehicles, where their wheels have left the carriageway and gradually excavated a very dangerous hazardous area. Today I followed a wide, towed, straw baler whose rear left wheel went into the deep hole. It first caused the trailer to tilt violently left the as it hit the end of the hole launched the trailer into the air causing it to move over the road centre line into the opposite lane. Fortunately no vehicles were in the lane at this time. If any car or motor cycle etc manages to put their nearside wheels into this huge hole then there will not only be extensive vehicle damage but a real likelihood of personal injury.
