Corner of Hawthorn Corner & Royal Oak Lane

Reported via desktop in the Sign (unlit) category anonymously at 11:36, Fri 16 August 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2815428.

My wife nearly had a head on collision 15/8/24 at point of turning into our home on Hawthorn Corner by a van driving the wrong way on Royal Oak Lane. The vehicle continued wrong way along Royal Oak Lane after this very near collision. Although driver should have been aware of the one way system, if someone inadvertently drives wrong way as far as left hand corner of Royal Oak Lane (near entrance of Hawthorn Corner), you will see photo attached looking westerly, the ‘one way’ sign meant for attention of vehicles exiting Hawthorn Corner could be misread as correct direction of travel. We have witnessed over the years several vehicles driving wrong way along Royal Oak Lane, whether leaving Royal Oak Pub or other access roads off Royal Oak Lane. Not certain how long this ‘one way’ sign has been misaligned, but feel this needs addressing with more adequate signage adopted at this particular corner to help avoid future accidents.

  • As of 26th November 2024 the ‘One Way’ sign for exiting Hawthorn Corner still remains distorted, giving any motorist inadvertently driving wrong direction on Royal Oak Lane an indication of correct route. Note: Whilst ‘No Entry’ sign road marking on Royal Oak Lane at corner of Hawthorn Corner appears to have been recently repainted, the location of this signage is clearly too far around blind corner, hence only visible after a potential head on collision has taken place.

  • Following original issue raised 16th August 2024, there appears to be no work carried out to date (6th Feb 2025) and this potential danger raised due to insignificant signage is still present.
