Sandsfield lane leading to scout hill

Reported via mobile in the Tree roots raising footpath category anonymously at 10:00, Friday 30 August 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 2816611.

Trees have been trimmed back hard over the years and new shoots have regrown too close to private fence, large amounts of ivy growing in these trees breaching over the private fence that has now fallen forward pulling the fence with it.

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Lincolnshire County Council at 09:34, Wednesday 4 September 2024

  • On Monday 9th a council employee came to sandsfield lane but I was out. He told my son he would come again on Tuesday so I waited in all day and have been in all day today. You have contact details to be able to phone me when you are planning on coming so we can arrange a time that’s suitable for both. The situation with the Ivy pulling the fence over became worse with the rain at the weekend as you can see from the photo and we have had to do emergency repairs to secure our property. The second picture shows the tree root breeching under the boundary fence.

  • Just to let you know this issue has turned out to be more complicated than we first thought. We need to take this on for more investigation. We will let you know the situation as soon as we can. Thanks for bearing with us.

  • After the last update. Workmen have come and pushed the ivy back into the temporary fence instead of removing it! This has caused minor damage to the fence. So over the last couple of days we have spent a lot of time, money and energy removing all the ivy properly and stacking it on the opposite side of the lane to be removed by the council. As you can see by the photos we have left the lane clean and tidy, rubbish separated and bagged for removal. We cannot complete the fencing until the tree roots that originate from the highway crossing our boundary are removed. This needs to be ASAP before the weather turns and you say you cannot do it until spring! I look forward to the telephone call I was promised over two weeks ago when you called when I was on holiday.

  • We have an update. Our highways team have issued this work out to one of their delivery gangs. We’ll let you know when the job is complete.

    State changed to: Action scheduled

  • Thank you for the update but letting me know when the job is complete will be a little too late! This is because we have got to remove the fence panels so the tree stump/roots can be removed/ground out without damaging the new fence again. The delivery gang that will be coming needs to arrange with me when a mutual time is convenient for this to happen.
