The Entire Length of Coddington Lane and Stapleford Lane Through Stapleford Woods

Reported via desktop in the Pothole on pavement/verge category anonymously at 16:05, Thu 14 November 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2823492.

The entire length of this road is plagued with dozens of severe potholes at the road edges. This road is almost completely straight and quite narrow. Because it is so straight most traffic tends to traverse it at quite high speeds of 40MPH or more. This means that traffic passing each other in opposing directions often do so at closing speeds of around 80MPH. Couple this with them having to dodge the many potholes at the road edges and probabty sooner rather than later a fatal head-on collision is inevitable. Worse still even if the potholes are all repaired (how likely is that?) the speeds could be even higher becasue the road is so straight even if it is quite narrow. I therefore urge that you consider implementing some 'traffic calming' measures to restrict the traffic speeds to a much lower level.

  • We're sending you this message to let you know that we've assessed the road condition and at this time it does not require urgent repair. However we have identified this location for a larger scale improvement scheme. At this stage we are unable to give specific dates for this or definitely commit to the scheme because we prioritise these schemes based on condition compared with the rest of the County road network and the resources available to us each year. We will continue to monitor this location as part of our routine inspections of the highway in the meantime. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • So the logical conclusion of the LCC's detemination is that they accept the inevitability of a high speed head-on fatal collision on this incredibly dangerous stretch of road. Moreover to say that "at this time it does not require urgent repair" is to say that the LCC is indifferent to the dangers caused by the frequent and severe potholes that are plain to see on this road,
